When I first started as a freelance writer, I was offered a great opportunity for a beginner like myself. To get the position, all I had to do was write an article. Which seemed fine since writing is what I do. However, I was asked to write about a topic I knew very little about. And I had only a few hours to do it.

After panicking for about ten minutes, I got down to business. Somehow, I managed to finish the article on time. I felt like I’d just run a marathon, and wasn’t able to think in sentences longer than three words for the rest of the day. But I was praised for the work, and offered the opportunity.

Since then, I’ve found a system that allows me to write fast articles on unfamiliar topics in a few hours without the chaotic panic I experienced the first time. This is a great system to use when you have little time to write an article on an unfamiliar topic. Even if you aren’t writing on a deadline, this system will help you to broaden your horizons, explore new topics, and find new things to write about.

Quick Article Writing Step 1: Find 3 to 5 Good Articles on the Topic.

Go to a search engine and type in the topic you’re going to be writing about. Focus on articles that are on the shorter side, and that seem clear and easy to understand.

Quick Article Writing Step 2: Start Reading the Articles.

Start reading the articles. How many articles you read will depend on how much time you have. Three good articles should give you a firm grasp of even the most unfamiliar topic.

As you read the articles, make brief notes. You’re notes don’t have to be too detailed. Just jot down two or three words as reminders for any important points you come across.

Quick Article Writing Step 3: Create an Outline.

Now it’s time to prepare to write your own article.

Keeping the research you just did in mind, and using your notes as a guideline, make an outline of your article. A typical outline for an article will include the following.

The Introduction: How will you introduce the topic to your readers?
