A Casual Players Guide to Making Money
“I’m flat broke” How many times have you heard that. With the recent changes to farming and how loot is assigned a lot of players are finding that their old spending habits just arent cutting it anymore. In this guide I will explain certain techniques you can use to save money, it wont get you that 15k armour in a week but it will certainly help make it easier.
Which Campaign does your character start in
Whys it matter? I can hear some of you saying. Regardless of whether you accept it or not, the campaign you select will have a big effect on your cash for the first half of the game.
- If Prophecies you will find that most of your cash will be going on armour, as skills and weapons are supplied in quests as well as collectors
- If Faction you will find that you’re pretty much paying for everything however certain shortcuts can be used to bring down expenditures.
- If Nightfall you will find that your main concern is armour like Prophecies however the starting quests will supply you with all your basic needs.
Dealing with Skills
Skills cost too much is another common complaint and inherently true after you have bought a certain amount but you can avoid this by not buying them when you dont need them. Complete every Prophecies skill quest, no matter how mundane the skill may seem because at the end of the day its a free skill, if there is a certain skill you’re after, check one of the Wikis and before you buy it see if you can get it from a quest. Also if youre a Factions or Nightfall exclusive class, MAKE SURE YOUR SECONDARY IS ONE OF THE CORES, before you go running off in Prophecies, Ive lost count how many people forget this.
Use the Hero Skill Points. Remember if you buy a skill for a hero, your character gets it as well, use this to your advantage and instead of buying it for the hero buy it for yourself. Once again check one of the Wikis if a skill can be acquired with Hero Skill Points before buying it from a trader.
Lastly dont go aiming for every elite skill, only go for the skill that will help your build, that elite isnt going to go anywhere. You can always come back for it later and get some more drops as you do.
Dealing with Armour
Rule 1 of buying armour: Dont buy it unless you have to and even then there are some rules. Why not? I hear. Well armour can be perfectly acquired from collectors. In fact I advise any person to do this in factions until you reach Kaineng City, it will save you a lot of money.
In the event that you MUST get an armour set, try and only purchase 1.5k and even then try and make sure it doesnt use any rare crafting materials, this will save you a lot of cash in the long run. Also make sure you like the armour you buy, with all armours inscribable there is no reason not to keep one and just replace the insignias.
Dealing With Weapons
Just use Collector weapons, you dont need to craft a weapon and certainly dont need to buy them off a player, if you do this then in the end you can get a nice skin later on. Remember check the Wiki if you’re looking for a certain combo more often then not someone in one of the campaigns will have it.
Those little collector rewards from quests
You know the ones the Battle Commendations, Monastery Credits, Imperial Commendations, these guys are your friends, make sure you get every one of these possible that you can.
At the start of Factions and to a degree in Nightfall, use them to kit your character out with bags and runes of holding for those bags. Once thats done move onto salvage kits.
Once you reach the mainland only ever use these when you need a superior salvage or id kit. Although it may seem like a waste in the long run it will save you a lot of cash. Exception to this is in Vabbi where you can spend them on rubies and sapphires and sell them to the trader, you can always come back for Vabbi armour later when you actually have the cash
Heroes
Lastly before I move onto the tips section, lets deal with heroes.
Rule 1 of Heroes: Dont try to outfit them all at the start of the game, its not neccessary and will just bleed your wallet dry. Select the heroes you will have on your team the most and start outfitting them. When outfitting give them collectors items, dont forget threres nothing wrong with foraging for collectors items, it just means more drops, then hand the collectors items to them
Give your heroes a major rune, they’re cheap and generally sell for 100g and stick it on their headgear, itll help in the long run.
Lastly if you need to get a skill for your hero then buy it from a Priest of Balthazar. It will save you 1 plat however you will require Balthazar faction and that can only be obtained in PVP. Also before you do this once again make sure the skill cant be obtained from a quest or hero skill trainer.
A small list of helpful hints
Now we move onto the list of helpful hints, following these hints will help in the long run
- Do every quest, no matter how boring, the money adds up.
- If you’re doing a mission, try for masters but dont make it a roadblock. There’s always more cash and xp beyond a mission and you can come back to it later.
- Dont forget that you can use the collector items for the kits and then sell the kits to the merchants if you need an quick 1 plat, but dont forget you may need that kit later, so think before you do.
- Take advantage of the free Nightfall chests, they can easily supply you with 510 plat and some free weapons for your heroes.
- Use the Festival Events to your advantage, farm the collectables and sell them to the players. Also, if there is an PVP arena, use it to gain Balthazar faction if youre a non PVPer, so you can use the faction for buying heroes skills.
- Avoid Titles until End Game, the only two that are required are Sunspear and Lightbringer and these require no money and in fact give money as you go for them.
- Do Prophecies and Nightfall before you hit Factions, the free skills will save money in the long run, leaving you to spend the huge money rewards from factions quests to spend on what you want.
- Use your guild, members will often then not just merch an cheap item they feel is useless , if you know the item and know it will save you money for a build then ask for it.
I apologise for the longness of this post, and some of the points may not suit everybody, but I can assure you following some of the tips will save you a lot of cash.
